The price of eggs has gone up almost 20 percent in the last year.
Stats NZ data showed the food price index rose to 8.3 percent higher than a year ago - the biggest annual increase in 13 years.
Grocery food prices were the main driver of the annual increase, particularly eggs and some dairy products.
