The lockdown has proven to be an inspiring time for many musicians. One local example is Noa Records, a new label which compiled an album called Keep Your Distance! in just ten days.
Released under the name Virtual Shadow Ensemble, with members contributing from different towns in NZ and Australia, it’s a mix of poetry, jazz, and dub that features appearances by members of Fat Freddy’s Drop, Yoko Zuna, and Trinity Roots.
Tony Stamp talked to five of the musicians involved - drummer Rikki Gooch, poet Aije, and the two guys behind Noa Records: Larsen Taylor and Nāvakatoa Tekela-Pule.
