8.30 Battle of the Bands 2024 finals

For the past four months, hundreds of bands across the country have been going head to head in the hope of being crowned the battle of the bands 2024 national champion.

The competition has been an annual feature of the New Zealand music scene since 1993 and previous finalists and winners include bands like Opshop, Tadpole and Blindspott.

This year's finals are being held at Valhalla in Wellington over the next two nights and organiser Andrew Featherstone speaks to Emile Donovan.

A new documentary, 21 years in the making, follows the first openly-gay Jewish rabbi in a 38-generation family dynasty of rabbis.

New York-based filmmaker Sandi DuBowski is the director of Sabbath Queen, which is screening in New Zealand for the DocEdge film festival.

He joins Emile Donovan.
