Northland Community leader Hone Harawira thinks "it's only a matter of time" before someone dies from Covid-19 in Te Tai Tokerau. In a press conference earlier this evening Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins announced the Northland region will enter Alert level three lockdown at midnight. Restrictions will remain in place until 11.59pm Tuesday and will be reviewed at Cabinet on Monday. The move follows a positive case from Auckland who has travelled extensively throughout the region between October 2nd and the 6th of October. Authorities say she has been un-cooperative. Mr Harawira has been worried about exposing his vulnerable community to Covid-19 through marine and land borders. Aiming to keep the north free of Covid-19. The group has been dubbed Te Tai Tokerau Border Control (TTBC).
