The small Alpine Village of Hanmer Springs in North Canterbury is preparing for a classical music concert - claimed to be the first in a century.
The internationally renowned Cathy Irons String Quartet will be on stage to perform popular works by Vivaldi, Mozart and Borodin.
Proceeds from the gala concert, held in the Grand Ballroom of the Hanmer Springs Hotel, will be put toward the purchase of mobility wheelchairs for the Hanmer Springs Health Centre.
More than 10 percent of the population of the thermal township are expected to attend on Mothers Day.
