From Nine To Noon, 9:38 am on 24 April 2017

It's a choice that will affect the health of hundreds of millions of people in the developing world, the vote for WHO's director general of the World Health Organisation. The election takes place in May and for the first time, there'll be a vote of the organisation's member nations in a bid to improve transparency. The winner will be responsible for everything from responding to Ebola and Zika epidemics, to responding to a wide array of public health issues, including obesity, antibiotic resistance and problems caused by climate change. Dr David Nabarro is one of the final three candidates, and is in Auckland campaigning ahead of the election.
