Bryce Johnson : 30 years at the head of Fish & Game

From Nine To Noon, 10:11 am on 24 October 2017

Bryce Johnson is retiring as the head of Fish & Game New Zealand after 37 years. The organisation was set up under the Conservation Act with the statutory responsibility for the sports of freshwater sport fishing and game-bird hunting, funded almost entirely from the sale of hunting and fishing licenses. This has put Mr Johnson is a unique position to be able to advocate for hunters and anglers - often on controvertial issues, such as water quality. Along the way he's gained some detractors - particularly in the farming sector - but he tells Kathryn Ryan, he is unapologetic about campaigning on environmental issues.
