Kiwi baritone Julien Van Mellaerts is performing the premier of some specially commissioned works about NZ native birds in a fund-raising concert at Wellington's Zealandia tonight. Composer Gareth Farr has put Bill Manhire's specially written poems about Dotterel, Takahe, Huia and Tui to music with ideas around environment and preservation of our native wildlife taking centre stage. Julien is touring NZ with these songs, and others, from tomorrow.
