Im Café, 1904 by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner.
Based on the work of Swiss sociologist and anthropologist Bernard Crettaz, Death Cafes are a global movement of casual gatherings where the only topic of conversation is death.
Contributing editor at Harper's Bazaar, and writer for the Guardian, the Financial Times, the Observer, Aeon, and Prospect, Sophie Elmhirst travelled to Vissoie in Switzerland to meet Bernard Crettaz and attend his final death cafe - or cafés mortels. She wrote about the experience in her article 'Take Me to the Death Café'.
Sophie Elmhirst talks to Kim Hill.
