Tech company Cogo is on a mission to help consumers make choices that better align with their values. Values like climate action, sustainability and worker's rights. Invercargill school teacher Rewi Pene speaks six languages and is now learning his seventh. He also happens to be an accomplished Opera singer and is spreading his love of language and music to our tamariki. Raised in a Māori speaking household in the far north Rewi Pene teaches at Te Wharekura o Arowhenua school in Invercargill, and he joins Anna to chat about his life and work.
9:40 Band IA composes song exclusively with traditional Māori instruments
Māori Music Award finalists, IA are known for creating modern music that blends western and traditional Māori instruments known as taonga pūoro. Yesterday they released their new song ‘Pūmau’ which is a very special track as it's composed exclusively with taongo pūoro and no western instruments. It's also the bands first collaboration as the song features the vocals of viral Facebook singer Pianika Duncan who joins the show alongside IA band member Reti Hedley.
