9:10 Snowed inn - and happy about it

A group of pub-goers in Yorkshire's Tan Hill Inn have been snowed into the establishment since Saturday night (UK time).

The 33 guests have kept busy playing board games, having sing-alongs, and by all accounts becoming friends for life.

It's not the first time the pub, which sits at 528 metres above sea level, has become a cosy lock-in due to heavy snow.

Manager Nicole Hayes phones in to Summer Times from Tan Hill Inn.

Nicole and Paul smile. They are standing outside in heavy snow, wearing big jackets. They hold snowballs in their hands.

9:45 Aotearoa's best summer biking

Aotearoa has some of the best biking in the world - including the 23 Great Rides which form the Ngā Haerenga cycle trail network - but there are plenty of other interesting cycle spots

And with e-bikes now so popular, what rides are best suited to them, and what should we be thinking about before we put our helmets on and pedal out the door?

Philip Wyndham, the General Manager of Adventure South, joins Anna to give some lycra-clad advice.

10:08 Road Trip: Moko Tepania

Far North mayor Moko Tepania has been making waves since he stepped into the big office - being both the first Māori Mayor in the region, and one of the youngest, at 33.

Aside from leading the recovery of roads and infrastructure damaged by Cyclone Gabrielle, last year he found time to graduate with a Masters in Māori Education at Waikato University.

Not only that, he made international headlines in 2024 winning the One Young World Politician of the Year Award, which recognises outstanding politicians making a positive impact on young people around the world.

He joins Anna Thomas for a virtual roadie, including picking the tunes, sharing his favourite summer reads, and explaining what drives him.

11:08 Human behavioural specialist on how to bounce back from job losses

2024 was a year of job losses on a big scale.

An estimated 9,500 public servants have been made redundant.

Job listings stayed low throughout the year. On Seek, listings rose by one percent in November, but the number of applications per job rose by three percent at the same time.

Here to explain how to bounce back from a job loss is Hayden Brown, a human behavioural specialist and counselor based in Nelson.

11:25 Everclear are still here to rock you

US Band Everclear were a goliath in the 1990s with hits like Father of Mine, Santa Monica and Wonderful, and this summer they're teaming up with some of Australia's finest rockers on the Summer Concert Series.

Frontman Art Alexakis was a bad boy of rock: drugs, booze and a lot of unmentionable illegal acts. That all happened before he got clean and formed the super successful Everclear in '92. The band went on to sell over 6 million records - four albums went gold or platinum.

Now, at the age of 63, and with a debilitating health condition, Art Alexakis is still performing with a great zest for life.

Anna Thomas catches up with Art ahead of the tour, which kicks off on Saturday in Queenstown.
