8:40 Jim Ng - The Chinese Miners
Historian Jim Ng talks to Chris about the Chinese miners. Around 40,000 were invited from Australia in 1865 to mine the gold that was harder to get to, and two years later the Lawrence Borough Council told them to clear off to a campsite by Tuapeka Creek. Jim is chairman of the Lawrence Chinese Camp Charitable Trust which aims to restore the camp.

Gabriel Read returned to Tasmania where he lost most of his money in a failed farming venture.
