Rangiriri Paa

A scaled representation of a fortified paa in North Waikato has won an excellence award from the Institute of Public Administration NZ, adding to other awards that have recognised the cultural development since it opened late last year. The Rangiriri Paa is the site of the 1863 Battle of Rangiriri and has been recreated by iwi Waikato-Tainui as well as consultants Boffa Miskell, Heritage New Zealand and cultural advisors.

Fortified structures on the site were designed in consultation with historians, iwi and craftspeople.
