A Christchurch City councillor has given property developers an ultimatum to make their buildings visually interesting or to stop participating in the rebuild.
Speaking to the Christchurch Central City Business Association on Wednesday, Jamie Gough told residents they need to pressure developers to create better buildings.
Mr Gough says he is becoming increasingly saddened by a quick-fix mentality that has resulted in what he calls glass and concrete box monstrosities.
He says they don't add value to Christchurch and too many developers are focusing on making buildings cheaply.
Mr Gough says developers' decisions are crucial because they will define the future heritage of the city.
