The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it's providing every assistance to the family of a New Zealand snowboarder killed in Germany on Tuesday.

Michael McKelvey, 38, was killed after a cliff jump went wrong while he was snowboarding on Fellhorn Mountain in southern Germany.

Mr McKelvey, of Palmerston North, had been living in Germany since 2002.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lucy Taylor says Mr McKelvey's family has asked for privacy.
