The Auckland Council is to again consider a ban on smoking in some public places.
In 2011, the council decided not to make public places smoke-free, with some councillors saying it would be too expensive or make Auckland seem like it was not a fun city.
Now a committee has voted to investigate whether a bylaw would be the best approach and what areas it would cover.
Mayor Len Brown has backed the call, saying it could strengthen efforts to make smoking socially unacceptable.
