A man has been arrested over the shooting at a cafe in Whakatane.
Two customers were taken to hospital with injuries from pellets after a man pointed a shotgun at staff at Julian's Berry Farm and Cafe in Huna Road early yesterday afternoon.
A shot was fired into the floor, and one woman received injuries to her stomach while another woman's leg was hit.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Standen said a 26-year-old man was in custody, and no one else was being sought in relation to the incident.
Police were speaking to the man about two robberies in Whakatane, and the shooting, Mr Standen said.
While no one was injured in the shooting, it was traumatic for those involved and police thanked those who assisted the investigation, he said.
