Wairoa police are looking for a vehicle over a fatal hit and run in the town on Sunday morning.
Nigel Sammons, 33, was found dead by police on Black Street just before 5am.
Police said Mr Sammons was dropped off in the street following a party on Saturday night, and was hit by a vehicle while walking on the road.
Detective Sergeant Kevin Ford said they were appealing for the public's help.
"We would love to hear from anyone in Wairoa who can tell us about any vehicle that has suffered probably extensive damage in the last few days or anyone that may be trying to wash a vehicle, hide a vehicle or do their own repairs on their vehicle over the last two days."
