A teenage driver who died in a crash in Hamilton overnight had fled from an officer who signalled him to stop, police say.
The 18-year-old was the driver and only occupant of a car that crashed into a tree on River Road.
"The man had been signalled to stop by a police officer due to the manner of his driving," a police statement said. "He failed to stop and crashed a short time later."
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
