A man has come forward to help police with their enquiries into a Southland hit-and-run.

A 19-year-old male was struck by a vehicle on Marama Avenue South in the Invercargill suburb of Ōtātara about 6.15am on Sunday.

The victim was hospitalised in a serious condition.

Detective Sergeant Scott MacKenzie said a man had now presented himself to police and was helping them with their enquiries into the incident.

No charges had been laid but police said they were not seeking anyone else in relation to the hit-and-run and the investigation was ongoing.
