Pedestrians seriously injured after being hit by car in Wellington, two arrested

Two people have been arrested after a car hit two pedestrians, causing serious injuries, and fled the scene.

In a statement, police said the crash happened in Wellington CBD around 1.15am on Sunday.

Police were called to Cable Street where the two pedestrains had been hit, it said.

They were taken to hospital, one in a critical condition and the other in a serious condition.

Police immediately began looking for the car involved in the crash and located it on Evans Bay Parade.

Those inside the car, a 23-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, were arrested.

Police said the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue, and charges would be laid.
