A section of highway has been closed in central Otago after a serious crash.
The two-vehicle collision happened on State Highway 6 - the Gibbston Highway this morning.
The road is expected to be closed for some time.
Meanwhile, a person died in a crash at Waipatu in Hastings overnight and another was killed in a crash on State Highway 2 in Dannevirke Friday afternoon.
Bay of Plenty police are warning drivers not to get behind the wheel drunk, after a rise in the number of impaired motorists being caught.
Throughout the operation, police adopted a "spot and stop" policy, where drivers were pulled over if detected speeding, and seatbelt checks were carried on the car's occupants.
