After a weekend of wet and stormy weather people may be hoping for some reprieve this week as November properly gets underway.
Unfortunately, things are expected to remain rather damp.
A rainband over the west of the South Island brings with it a moderate risk of thunderstorms for parts of Fiordland and Westland on Monday. The risk is lower further inland than out on the coast.
There's also a heavy rain watch in force for Westland from 1pm Monday through to 1pm Tuesday, and for the Paparoa Range in the West Coast and the ranges in the Buller District for most of Tuesday.
"Periods of heavy rain, and amounts may approach warning criteria," MetService said.
For Paparoa Range and Buller District the likelihood of being upgraded to a warning was high.
"Streams and rivers may rise rapidly. Surface flooding, slips, and difficult driving conditions possible."
People should clear their gutters and drains and avoid low-lying areas, MetService said.
Elsewhere it was expected to be cloudy throughout much of the rest of the country on Monday, though Nelson and Marlborough would be mainly fine.
It's also cooler with the MetService saying part of the North Island would be "frosty in some places at first, and areas of morning fog too".
And scattered showers and cloudy periods were on the cards for much of the rest of the week.
