A body found in the Piha Beach area is believed to be a missing fisherman, police say.
They were notified of the body on the shoreline on Tuesday afternoon.
While the formal identification process is yet to be completed, it is believed to be a fisherman who was reported missing on Thursday 9 January.
Police and Victim Support are providing support to the man's family.
Surf Lifesaving said life guards were the ones who found the body.
A Surf Lifesaving spokesperson said they shared their condolences with the family and friends of the man.
They are supporting the surf lifesavers involved, and say the matter has been handed to police.
The death will be referred to the coroner.
