A Northland baby whose head was seriously injured last month has been discharged from hospital as police continue to investigate how the five-month-old was hurt.
The baby boy was taken to Dargaville Hospital with serious head injuries on 28 December 2024 and later taken to Starship Hospital in Auckland.
Detective Sergeant Shane Pilmer, of Whangārei CIB, said police were pleased the baby boy has made a recovery, but investigators remain very concerned about what may have happened.
"We have been speaking with the baby's family as part of ongoing enquiries."
Police are focusing on the events of 28 December 2024, he said.
"It's concerning for investigators when anyone sustains serious injuries such as these, and these concerns are only heightened when it involves some of our most vulnerable members of the community," Pilmer said.
"We would like to hear from anyone with information that can provide clarity on what has taken place.
"I encourage people to come forward and they can do so in confidence."
Police can be contacted online or call 105 using reference number 241229/1679.
