Ferry company Fullers has praised its crew after the rescue of a passenger who jumped overboard while travelling from Waiheke Island to Auckland.

"Our crew immediately initiated standard person-overboard procedure and search-and-rescue operations were launched," the company said in a statement, saying the passenger had jumped off the ferry about 7am on Tuesday.

"Thanks to the swift response of our crew in low visibility conditions, the passenger was recovered and brought safely back on board the vessel.

"We would also like to acknowledge the patience of the passengers on board this service."

The incident had caused delays to Fullers services due to "operational requirements", the statement said.
