A former Christchurch mayor says the current Christchurch City Council must accept responsibility for the city's billion dollar budget shortfall.
Sir Bob Parker's comments came after a budget blowout for a cycle way.
His council budgeted $68 million but this had more than doubled under the present regime to $156 million.
The council now faced a funding shortfall of $1.2 billion.
Sir Bob said the new council must stop blaming the previous council and instead take responsibility for its own policies.
