Ports of Auckland has been fined $55,000 and ordered to pay reparation after a dockworker was seriously injured while unloading a container ship.

The company was sentenced in the Auckland District Court today after earlier admitting it failed to take all practicable steps to ensure the worker's safety.
In January 2014, the worker was trying to dislodge a piece of equipment known as a twist-lock that was two-containers high up when he fell, hit a crane beam and then the wharf, before landing in the water.
He was in hospital for three months after suffering several fractured limbs, a damaged lung and breaking both legs.
Ports of Auckland has been ordered to pay the worker $25,000 in reparation.
The maximum penalty under the Health and Safety in Employment Act is $250,000.
