Alex Swney, the former head of Auckland's downtown promotion agency Heart of the City, will now be sentenced in June.
Swney has admitted creating false invoices to obtain money from the council-funded agency, which he ran for over ten years. The fraud involved more than $2.5 million.
He has also admitted not paying nearly $1.8 million of tax.
The 57-year-old was due to be sentenced in the Auckland District Court today but the hearing has been postponed because the sentencing judge is unwell.
