Increasing the number of city councillors would lead to inefficiency and make it harder to get things done, a Christchurch councillor says.
Christchurch City Council is conducting a representation review, carried out by local bodies every six years. The review includes the number of councillors.
Jamie Gough admits the workload is high for the 13 councillors as they deal with earthquake recovery, a district plan review and the long-term plan.
However, he said, they understood the issues.
"Adding more people, doubling the amount of councillors, I don't actually think reduces any form of workload," said Mr Gough.
"Just makes it more bureaucratic, harder to get anything done."
