Health officials are urging people on the West Coast to get vaccinated after a sharp rise in influenza cases.
In the last week doctors on the West Coast have reported a significant increase in patients presenting flu-like symptoms.
West Coast Medical Officer of Health Doctor Cheryl Brunton said it was an important reminder for people to get vaccinated quickly, as it takes two weeks to develop immunity.
Ms Brunton said influenza can be a serious illness that is sometimes fatal and is very different from the common cold.
