A Chinese tourist whose driving on the wrong side of the road caused the death of an Oamaru child will have to serve his full sentence.
The 32-year-old from Beijing was convicted and sentenced in February to 18 months in prison for dangerous driving near Moeraki that caused the death of five-year-old Ruby Marris.
Mr Cao is also required to pay $61,000 reparation.
He had sought to have his sentence reduced, but in the High Court in Dunedin this afternoon, Justice Gendall agreed with the sentence imposed by Judge Kevin Phillips and dismissed the appeal.
Speaking outside court, Ruby's father Tristan Marris said he was pleased with the upheld sentence but said nothing would bring his daughter back.
