A large blaze in native bush near the village of Waipori Falls in Otago - which forced a power plant to shut down- is now out.
The fire which was more than one kilometre long, broke out overnight and was fanned by strong winds.
It caused the Waipori Falls dam power generation plant to be shut off, but there were no reports of power cuts in Dunedin.
Weinta Pine Forest chief executive David Cormack said the fire was not in the company's forest, but in native bush nearby.
A fire crew will remain at the scene to monitor it and dampen hot spots.
