An anti-abortion group has lost its High Court battle to declare a Bay of Plenty clinic's abortion licence unlawful.
Right to Life had argued the Abortion Supervisory Committee had unlawfully renewed limited licences for the Tauranga Family Planning Clinic to carry out medical abortions, which use a drug to end the pregnancy.
Justice Joe Williams yesterday ruled the clinic's current licence to be valid.
Right to Life spokesperson Ken Orr said the organisation would consult its lawyer over whether it should lodge an appeal.
He said it was particularly concerning that the Family Planning Association was working to extend the medical abortion licence in Tauranga to its clinics nationwide.
