Police say a man has been killed in a hunting incident in eastern Bay of Plenty.
They are investigating the death of the 27 year old in the Te Kaha area last night.
Police said a party of three men were hunting at about midnight when a firearm was discharged and one of the group died at the scene.
The area has been cordoned off for a scene examination and an investigation is underway.
It is the sixth hunting shooting this year.
Earlier this week, an 11-year-old boy was fatally shot on a hunting trip northeast of Taupo after an adult unloaded a firearm.
On Tuesday, a 61-year-old father was discharged without conviction after shooting his son dead on a hunting trip on Stewart Island in March.
