A 19-year-old Turangi man has been arrested after at least four people were shot at from a moving vehicle with a BB gun.
Police said the car was travelling on State Highway 47, between the Tongariro National Park and Turangi, from 5 to 6.30pm yesterday.
They said a woman had a pellet strike her car's windscreen, and a man was injured after being shot in the shoulder while taking a photo.
A cyclist also told police he heard a pellet fly past his head and lodge in a grass bank.
Police were still looking for a second cyclist, believed to have been shot in the hip.
The 19-year-old man was arrested after police stopped a suspicious car and located a BB gun.
He is due at the Taupo District Court next Wednesday to face charges of assault with a firearm or airgun.
