Heavy rain in Tongariro National Park last night has damaged the Alpine Crossing, leaving bridges on the track covered with rocks and logs.
The Department of Conservation (DoC) said the Alpine Crossing remained open, but asked trampers to be careful when moving through flood-damaged areas.
Markers are in place where the track has been washed out.
DoC conservation services manager Paul Carr said it showed walkers how quickly the weather conditions could change in the park, and how severe they could become.
He said there was damage on both the Ketetahi and Mangatepopo sides of the crossing.
