Firefighters have brought under control a large scrub fire above Wellington's Mt Victoria tunnel.

The Fire Communications Shift Manager said 11 fire engines attacked the fire from two flanks; from Alexandra Road on Mt Victoria itself and Ellice Street near the Basin Reserve.
Jan Wills said they received calls from the public that the area was alight at 2.30pm today.
Ms Wills said the area that had caught alight was full of pine trees.
