Police are talking to two young people in relation to the death of a teenager in Otorohanga.
Ocean Heke, aged 17 and from Te Kuiti, was found dead on Main North Road (State Highway 3) just north of the town about 6.30am on Sunday.
The police said they had also identified a car that might have been involved.
Detective Senior Sergeant Ross Patterson said in a statement that a post-mortem had shown Ms Heke had injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle.
"The post-mortem confirms what we believe had occurred from the scene examination yesterday," he said.
"We have identified a car that appears to have been involved... This too will undergo a forensic examination today."
The police have asked for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
Mr Patterson said Ms Heke's body would be returned to her family today.
