A police pursuit has ended up on the wrong side of an Auckland motorway for the second time this week, with a car full of teens throwing bottles of alcohol at police overnight.
Five teenagers led police on a 45-minute chase around Auckland, driving the wrong way down two motorways and throwing the bottles.
Police began to follow the young people, aged between 15 and 17, after a West Auckland liquor store was burgled at about midnight last night.
Inspector Cornell Klussein said officers successfully spiked the car but it was still able to drive and headed onto the Southwestern Motorway at New Windsor.
The police pursued the car in the same direction, but on the correct side of the road. Police said it was a "relatively low-speed" chase , with the vehicles travelling at about 75kmh.
The teens then left the motorway, and headed the wrong way along the Southern motorway at about 40kmh.
They eventually left the motorway, were blocked by police cars and arrested.
Another pursuit in the early hours of Wednesday morning was also sparked by a liquor store burglary, with a car with two people inside crashing on the South Western Motorway after driving on the wrong side. The occupants of the car fled the scene.
