The Australian batsman's knock has helped his side to a lead of 280 runs, they finished the day on 463 for six.
Helping him at the other end was Peter Siddle on 29 who brought up a milestone of his own - he became just the eighth Australian to score 1000 test runs and take 200 test wickets.
While the New Zealand bowlers tried what looked to be their best, the only thing they could celebrate was the wicket of Peter Nevill who went for 32.
He was caught by BJ Watling off the bowling of Corey Anderson.
Voges steadies the ship for Australia
New Zealand pace bowler Trent Boult picked up two quick wickets after lunch to have Australia 299 for five but Voges steadied the ship for his side to get them through to 220 for five at the tea break.
Voges himself finished the session while wicketkeeper/batsman Peter Nevill was on 15.
Boult picked up the valuable wicket of Usman Khawaja for 140 and then just two balls later he got Mitchell Marsh out caught and bowled.
While the wickets revitalised the New Zealand bowling attack, they were unable to claim any more wickets before the break with the new ball.
Australia's lead has grown to 147 with five wickets remaining in their first innings.
Australia look formidable after morning session
The tourists reached lunch at 238 for three, after resuming on 147 for three at the Basin Reserve, in reply to the New Zealanders' disappointing 183 all out in their first innings.
That's a lead of 55 runs.
Australian batsmen Usman Khawaja's got his century and has been scoring freely. Khawaja's unbeaten on 115 and Adam Voges is on 40.
