Melbourne players give up plans to appeal NRL points ban

4:27 pm on 29 April 2010

The Melbourne Storm players have given up on appealing their National Rugby League points ban, says halfback Cooper Cronk.

Cronk says after two days of talks, the club owners News Ltd and the players' association had persuaded the players not to appeal the ban which was part of the punishment handed out for breaching the salary cap.

It means the Storm are resigned to collecting the wooden spoon as they play out their remaining 17 games.

The players' acceptance of the penalty comes after News Ltd chief executive John Hartigan told them there'd be no support from the owners for an appeal.
