The former All Black Andy Haden has infuriated the Crusaders Super 14 franchise by accusing them of a selection policy that includes a limit of three Maori and/or Polynesian players.
Haden's comments, made on Sky Sport on Wednesday night, have stunned the New Zealand Rugby Union's chief executive Steve Tew and Hamish Riach, two long-serving chief executives at the Super 14's most successful franchise.
Tew says Haden's comments are outlandish, but typical.
Tew has suggested that in light of Haden's comments, some people might want to reconsider his government appointment as a Rugby World Cup ambassador.
