The world champions have come from 10-3 down and overcome the loss of two players to the sin bin to beat England 28-13 in the deciding game in San Diego.
Winger Renee Wickliffe scored all three of New Zealand's tries, while vice-captain Kendra Cocksedge kicked two conversions and three penalties.
The Black Ferns will return home to play seventh ranked Australia in the Laurie O'Reilly Memorial Trophy next month.
The first test is in Perth on August 10, with the second and final match at Eden Park the following Saturday.

The reigning series champion has crossed the finish line just behind race winner Simon Pagenaud (padge-ah-no) of France, with American Alexander Rossi third.
Championship leader Josef (joseph) Newgarden has finished fourth to retain the series lead, with Dixon 86 points back in fourth.
Scott Dixon revealed after the race that he had to nurse the car home after making the contact on lap 12 or 15.
"So the rest of the race the steering was on a big angle," he said.
Three golds, a silver and two bronze for NZ rowers

The women's eight, the women's lightweight double of Jackie Kiddle and Zoe McBride and single sculler Emma Twigg all won their events.
The women's pair of Grace Prendergast and Kerri Gowler finished second, while the men's eight and men's pair of Michael Burke and Tom Murray both finished third in their events.
Robbie Manson was fifth in the men's single sculls final.
Hamilton wins at home
Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton has won his home British Grand Prix for a record sixth time, stretching his championship lead over Mercedes team mate Valtteri Bottas to 39 points.

Hamilton took advantage of a safety car to jump ahead of Bottas, delighting the bumper 141,000-strong Silverstone crowd.
The win, Hamilton's seventh from 10 rounds, takes the Briton ever closer to a sixth world title. He is now 39 points clear of Bottas in the championship standings.
On a sensational day for Hamilton, the Englishman also secured a bonus point by posting a stunning track record on his final lap.
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finished third after Sebastian Vettel crashed into the back of Max Verstappen.
Red Bull driver Verstappen managed to finish fifth, but Vettel dropped to 16th with the damage sustained in the incident.
Hamilton crossed the line 25 seconds clear of Bottas, surpassing Britain's double world champion Jim Clark and the Frenchman Alain Prost as the standalone master of his home race.

Impey wins stage nine
South African Daryl Impey added an individual stage win to his Tour de France happy memories when he prevailed at the end of a long breakaway from St Etienne on stage nine.
The Mitchelton Scott rider, who wore the race's yellow jersey for a couple of days in 2013, beat Belgian Tiesj Benoot in a two-man sprint after the duo went clear from the day's breakaway.
Slovenia's Jan Tratnik took third place, 10 seconds behind as France's Julian Alaphilippe retained the overall lead after 170.5 kilometres with the top guns enjoying an easy day on a bumpy stage nine.
New Zealand's George Bennett remains fourth overall, a minute 10 behind Alaphilippe.

Tupou robbed in South Africa
Wallabies prop Taniela Tupou suffered minor cuts to his arm after having his phone snatched in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Tupou was walking back to the team hotel in upmarket Sandton with eight other Wallaby front-rowers about 9.15pm on Saturday after a group dinner nearby when a man grabbed his phone.
He suffered the cuts as he tried to grab the phone back after the man had run and climbed into a waiting car.
"Someone just came up behind me and took my phone," said Tupou.
"I thought it was one of the boys so I looked back. He was wearing a hoodie and ran with my phone.
"I tried to chase him and he got in the car.
"I got injured with a cut but I am fine. I lost my phone but I can live with that."
Rugby Australia says local police took statements from all of the players and they believe it was part of a series of incidents that night.
The Wallabies are preparing to start the World Cup season with their Rugby Championship opening match against South Africa on Saturday at Ellis Park.

Canberra up to third
Canberra thrashed St George Illawarra 36-14 to move into third on the NRL ladder, despite centre Nick Cotric becoming the first player this season to be sent off.
Cotric was playing his first game back from a syndesmosis injury and scored the opening try, before tip-tackling Dragons centre Tim Lafai in the 59th minute.
Raiders centre Jarrod Croker broke two records and co-captain Josh Hodgson was instrumental as Canberra leapfrogged the Sydney Roosters into third.
Croker, 28, became Canberra's leading try-scorer and, in the process, the youngest player to reach 1900 points.
Parramatta are well poised for a late-season charge to the NRL top four after spoiling Benji Marshall's party with a 30-18 victory.
Tigers veteran playmaker Marshall became the 38th player in league history to reach the 300-game mark, however his side failed to do the occasion justice.
The Eels are now sixth on the table.
And Jake Clifford nailed a dramatic field goal in the 79th minute to fire North Queensland to a 15-12 upset of the Sydney Roosters in Gosford.
