FAST5 Ferns goal shooter Aliyah Dunn was outstanding for the home side scoring consecutive six-pointers from long range in the third quarter powerplay to help New Zealand gain a clear advantage.

Dunn showed a similar level of dominance against international opposition as she has as one of the leading players at domestic level for the Pulse.

Dunn scored 13 from 16, with Tiana Metuarau, Georgia Heffernan and Filda Vui adding a few goals each while sharing the goal attack duties.

Uganda's Mary Cholhok scored nine from 19, supported by Shadiah Nassange.

Australia defeated Jamaica 39-15 in their first outing with Lucy Austin the most prolific of their four shooters.

Australia's Sophie Garbin and Sophie Dwyer backed up their recent form in tests against England, while Georgie Horjus used her court smarts to move the ball in attack.

South Africa held on in an exceptional opening game for a six-goal defeat of a young England team by 32-26.

The men's competition will be underway this afternoon when Australia play England. New Zealand is also competing for the men's trophy.
