A first ever test between the Black Caps and Afghanistan has been confirmed for September, to be played in India.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board announced the match will take place in Greater Noida, adjacent to Delhi, with a likely date September 9-13 September.

It will be Afghanistan's 10th test and their third for 2024 - having lost to Sri Lanka and Ireland.

The test will begin a busy red ball run in the subcontinent for New Zealand, with a three-match test series against India to begin in mid-October, followed by two tests in Sri Lanka.

Following the New Zealand test, England, Australia, Pakistan and South Africa will be the only countries to not have played against Afghanistan in a test.

The ACB said in a statement it was pleased to conclude negotiations with New Zealand Cricket.

"We are delighted to host a quality New Zealand test team for the first time in our cricketing history," the statement said, quoting chairman Mirwais Ashraf.

"This is a testament to the hard work we have put in through numerous discussions and meetings with different boards on the sidelines of the various ICC Board Meetings.

"The Black Caps are an outstanding all-format team in world cricket, and we hope to reach an agreement with New Zealand Cricket for white-ball bilateral matches in the future."
