It looks like both the Invercargill netball and basketball teams will play their upcoming seasons in the middle of the velodrome which is all that remains of the Stadium Southland complex.
The heaviest snowfall in the region in a decade caused the stadium's roof to collapse at the weekend and now both the Southern Steel netballers and the Southland Sharks basketballers are looking at the velodrome as a stopgap measure.
Steel CEO Julie Patterson says the velodrome has a substantial area with four courts that can be used for tennis or netball and a wooden floor is set to be put in the middle.
Patterson says it's an opportunity for both teams with the Sharks playing just their second NBL season with 10 home games while the netballers have four.
Capacity's another aspect that's still being worked through but Patterson says the Steel want to let the public know what's happening as soon as possible.
