The America's Cup, how to kiss and twerking are among the most popular searches by New Zealanders on the internet this year.

Google has released its annual zeitgeist – a barometer of what has interested New Zealanders most in 2013.

Teen singer-songwriter and Grammy nominee Lorde is the fifth most popular Google search and also the most frequently searched for New Zealander. The America's Cup was the most searched topic, followed by the death of Fast and Furious actor Paul Walker, the birth of Prince George to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the death of Glee star Cory Monteith.

Auction website Wheedle, earthquakes today and the latest iPhone come in at sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively. The Harlem Shake and X-Factor New Zealand complete the top 10.

In the how to category, how to draw and how to kiss were most common, while in the what is category, people were most curious about twerking and the age old question - what is love?
