Lontalius: It’s the long weekend, so let’s get things started early. I’ll Forget 17, the debut record from Lontalius née Eddie Johnston is out this Friday, and the Wellington-based musician is in Auckland for a one-off album release show. With support from October, he’s playing an early show tonight at Las Vegas club on K Rd. They’ve sold out online but, if you’re lucky, limited tickets are available in store from Flying Out.
Noel Gallagher: Last here as part of the line-up for Big Day Out 2012, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds are back in the country for a show this evening at ASB Theatre. This time the visit is in support of their latest album Chasing Yesterday, which was released a year ago. If you’re going to listen to one interview with him today, let it be this one. (Update: it's been cancelled.)
Silo Sessions: To celebrate five years of events at Silo Park, organisers are throwing a very special Silo Sessions this Saturday featuring performances from Shayne P. Carter, The Conjurors, Coco Solid (DJ set) and Race Banyon. Things run from midday until 6pm and, as usual, there’s no entry fee. Find out more here.
Tweedy: Here for one New Zealand performance, Tweedy – the duo made up of Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and his son Spencer – play the Powerstation in Auckland this Sunday night. We’ve been told to expect a set that includes songs from their debut album, Sukierae, as well highlights from the Wilco, and Uncle Tupelo back catalogues. Tickets are available here.
Deep Feminine Spirit Party: An epic line-up of acts, including Womb, Hex and Ducklingmonster, play the Aro Valley Community Hall this weekend as part of the Deep Feminine Spirit Party. It’s on this Friday and all proceeds will go to Shakti – an organisation that supports survivors of domestic violence. Entry is $15 waged or $10 unwaged. More here.
Manos del Chango: Delaney Davidson has teamed up with singer Nicole Izobel García for a new project titled Manos del Chango. Described as “Blues Cumbia Psych Frappuccino Habanero Trash Chicken Nuggets Music”, the duo are introducing their songs with a short tour around the country. They ticked Auckland off the list last week and tonight hit Wellington for one show at Meow. From there, they’ll be heading back to Lyttleton for a show at Wunderbar next week.
