The Situation

A ridge lies over the South Island today while a weak front moves onto the lower North Island. The front continues to move north tomorrow, followed by a building ridge.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland, Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty and Taupo

Partly cloudy. Isolated showers in the afternoons and evenings, some heavy tomorrow with possible thunderstorms about Bay of Plenty and Rotorua.

Auckland to northern Taranaki

Partly cloudy. Isolated showers from tomorrow afternoon, some possibly heavy about Waikato.

Gisborne to Wairarapa, also Taihape

Scattered showers. Thunderstorms possible this afternoon and evening. Showers clearing from Napier south tomorrow afternoon.

South Taranaki to Wellington

A few showers developing this afternoon, clearing tomorrow morning, becoming fine afternoon.

Marlborough, Nelson, Canterbury

Often cloudy. A few showers developing about Nelson and Canterbury tomorrow morning, clearing evening.

Buller to Fiordland

Mainly fine but showers about coastal Fiordland today.

Otago, Southland

A few showers spreading north this afternoon, clearing tomorrow morning, becoming fine in the afternoon.

Chatham Islands

Partly cloudy. Rain tomorrow morning and afternoon.

Monday

North Island: Fine south of the Central Plateau. Partly cloudy with isolated afternoon and evening showers elsewhere. South Island: Mainly fine, isolated showers in the south and west.

Tuesday

North Island: Mainly fine. Isolated showers developing in the morning, clearing most but lingering about Bay Of Plenty. South Island: Partly cloudy, with isolated showers in the east.

Wednesday

North Island: Partly cloudy with isolated showers in the east. Mainly fine elsewhere. South Island: Rain developing in the south later. Partly cloudy elsewhere, with isolated showers inland.

Mainly fine but a few showers developing Tuesday then clearing late Wednesday. Southerlies turning westerly on Monday, then strong southwesterly on Tuesday.
