Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Thursday
The Situation
A slow-moving front over the north of the North Island weakens tomorrow. Meanwhile a ridge over the central and southern New Zealand retreats to east, and a couple of weak cold fronts move northeast over the south of the South Island, followed by another ridge late tomorrow.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland, Auckland, Coromandel and Bay of Plenty
Periods of rain or showers, heavy at times, with isolated thunderstorms possible.
Waikato, Waitomo, Taupo, also Gisborne
Mostly cloudy with showers, easing tomorrow afternoon or evening.
Taranaki, Taumarunui, Taihape and Hawke's Bay
Cloudy periods with isolated showers, turning to rain for a time tomorrow morning and afternoon.
Whanganui to Wellington, also Wairarapa
Mainly fine today. Cloudy periods tomorrow, with isolated showers possible from afternoon.
Nelson, Buller, Grey, Westland, also Marlborough
Cloud increasing tomorrow morning. Isolated showers about Westland, clearing tomorrow afternoon.
Canterbury, Otago and Southland excluding Stewart Island
Mostly fine today. Rain developing in Southland and Clutha tomorrow morning, with scattered rain elsewhere from afternoon, and rain easing in the south later.
Fiordland, Stewart Island
Occasional showers clearing late tomorrow.
Chatham Islands
A few light showers clearing tomorrow.

Tuesday
North Island: Rain or showers for the northern half of the Island, with some heavy falls. Isolated showers elsewhere. South Island: Scattered rain or showers.
Wednesday
North Island: Rain or showers spreading south early, some heavy. South Island: Scattered showers in the south. Rain elsewhere, with some heavy falls.
Thursday
North Island: Rain easing to a few showers in the north early, then elsewhere later. South Island: Rain with some heavy falls in the east, easing later. Scattered showers elsewhere, clearing in Westland and Fiordland later.
Friday
North Island: Scattered showers. South Island: Scattered showers in east and south, clearing in the north later. Fine elsewhere.
And at the Chathams
Occasional showers, turning to rain for a time during Wednesday and Thursday, briefly heavy. Northeasterlies becoming strong Wednesday, rising to gale for a time Thursday, changing gale southwesterlies early Friday, then gradually easing.
