The Situation
A ridge of high pressure over the country, retreats to northern New Zealand today, as a couple of cold fronts move up southern and central New Zealand.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and Taupo
Showers in the west, spreading elsewhere this afternoon, some possibly heavy. Showers becoming isolated in the west tonight, clearing south of Auckland tomorrow.
Waitomo to Kapiti, including Taihape
Scattered showers clearing overnight. Fine tomorrow.
Gisborne to Wairarapa
Mainly fine at first. Showers spreading north this afternoon, some heavy north of Napier tonight, clearing in the south. Showers easing tomorrow.
Wellington, Nelson, Marlborough
Mainly fine, but scattered showers this afternoon and evening.
Buller, Westland
Scattered showers clearing to mostly fine this afternoon.
Canterbury, Otago
Scattered showers clearing in Otago this afternoon and Canterbury overnight. Fine tomorrow.
Southland, Fiordland
Fine spells and isolated showers clearing this afternoon. Cloud increasing later tomorrow, with a few showers developing about the south coast.
Chatham Islands
Cloudy periods, with rain overnight tonight.

Wednesday
North Island: Scattered showers in Gisborne and Hawke's Bay gradually easing. Mostly fine elsewhere. South Island: Morning rain in Fiordland and Southland, spreading north to Kaikoura Coast late, easing in the south. Snow possible to 600 metres for a time a time over inland Southland. Mainly fine elsewhere.
Thursday
North Island: Showers in the south and east, easing in the south late. Mainly fine elsewhere, but isolated showers in Northland. South Island: Scattered showers in Canterbury and Marlborough clearing, then becoming fine everywhere.
Friday
North Island: Mostly fine, but a few showers in the east. South Island: Fine, apart from a few showers in the far south.
And at the Chathams
A few showers, turning to rain for a time Wednesday night and during Thursday. Westerlies, turning southerlies late Wednesday, strong at times.
