Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Wednesday

The Situation

A building ridge of high pressure dominates New Zealand/Aotearoa today while a number of weak fronts move up the east coast. Tomorrow, the large high moves east of the country and a northerly flow develops.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland, Auckland

Mainly fine. Isolated showers in the Far North today, and morning and evening showers north of the Harbour Bridge tomorrow.

Waikato to Wellington, including Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and the central high country

Fine, apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers about the central high country tomorrow.

Gisborne to Wairarapa

Cloudy periods with isolated showers about Hawke's Bay and Gisborne, clearing tomorrow morning. Otherwise mainly fine.

Marlborough, Nelson, Buller, Grey and Westland

Partly cloudy, with isolated showers about the ranges today. Fine tomorrow.

Canterbury, Otago, Southland and Fiordland

Mainly fine. Cloudy in Fiordland tomorrow, with a few showers developing in the morning.

Chatham Islands

Fine spells and the odd shower, clearing tomorrow.

Monday

North Island: Fine in the east and south. Partly cloudy with isolated showers in the north and west. South Island: Rain with heavy falls developing in the west and south. Partly cloudy in the north and east.

Tuesday

North Island: Rain with heavy falls developing in the west. Fine for Gisborne and Hawke's Bay. Partly cloudy with isolated showers elsewhere. South Island: Rain in the north and west, with heavy falls, clearing. Partly cloudy with showers elsewhere.

Wednesday

North Island: Rain with some possibly heavy falls, easing to isolated showers later. South Island: Scattered showers, some possibly heavy, easing in the north east late.

And at the Chathams

Mainly fine, but a few showers developing late Tuesday. Northerlies developing early Monday, becoming strong on Wednesday.
