Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Sunday

The Situation

A weakening front moves onto the North Island on today, while an unsettled west to southwest flow affects the South Island. A strong southwest flow covers the country tomorrow with unsettled weather in many areas.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

In the west from Northland to Waitomo, including Bay of Plenty and the central high country

Isolated showers and fine spells. Showers becoming widespread south of Northland for a time tomorrow.

Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Wairarapa, Wellington, also Marlborough and Nelson.

Mainly fine. Scattered showers tomorrow afternoon and evening, some possibly thundery with hail for a time in Wellington and Wairarapa.

Taranaki to Horowhenua Kapiti Coast

Cloudy periods with isolated showers, becoming scattered tomorrow afternoon, some possibly thundery with hail.

Buller and Westland

Showers, some possibly heavy with hail, clearing Westland in the morning.

Canterbury

Scattered showers, possibly heavy with hail, clearing for a time tonight and early morning.

Fiordland, Otago and Southland

Scattered showers, possibly thundery with hail about Fiordland and Stewart Island tonight. Showers clearing Fiordland in the morning and easing elsewhere in the afternoon.

Chatham Islands

Cloudy periods, odd shower.

And the outlook for the following three days...

Friday

North Island: Isolated showers clearing and fine spells increasing. South Island: A few showers about Fiordland and the south coast. Fine spells elsewhere with the odd shower.

Saturday

North Island: Partly cloudy with isolated showers. South Island: Showers in the south clearing in the morning. Scattered showers elsewhere.

Sunday

North Island: Partly cloudy with isolated showers, mainly in the northeast. South Island: Mainly fine in the east. Scattered showers elsewhere, possibly heavy in Fiordland.

And at the Chathams

Occasional showers. Northwest winds turning southeast early Friday then southwest late Friday, strong for a time on Saturday.
